BinHex
BinHex is standard way of encoding files into a format readable by all platforms so that they can be distributed on the Internet. It is most commonly used with Macintosh files. BinHex file names end in hqx.



bit
A bit is the smallest unit of data used by binary computers. A bit can have two values: 1 or 0. A bit is normally only useful when used with other bits to form bytes, kilobytes, megabytes and gigabytes.


BMP
BMP is a standard format for graphic files in Windows. BMP stands for bit-mapped graphic.


bookmark
A bookmark is a link to a Web page, displayed in a menu in your browser. Almost all Web browsers can save links to Web pages so that they can be visited later. Find out how to use Netscape's bookmarks.


browser
A browser is a program that displays Web pages. The Navigator component of Netscape Communicator is a browser.


byte
A byte is eight bits of data on a binary computer. A character, such as 'a', requires one byte of data. See also kilobyte and megabyte.
