 Find a file on your hard drive [ Learn How To... ]

Windows 95

Find File dialog 1. Click Start Taksbar button, then click Find, then Files or Folders.

2. Type the name of the file you want to find in the Named box. You do not have to enter the complete name.

3. Click Find Now.

4. A list of files containing the text you specified will appear in the lower half of the window. The In Folder column will tell you the file's location on the hard drive.

Windows 3.1

1. Open the Main program group, then open the File Manager.

2. Click the File menu, then click Search.

3. In the Start From field, make sure that it has only the root level of the drive you want to search, for example C:\.

4. Type the name of the file you want to find in the Search For field.

5. Click Search.

Macintosh

1. In the Finder, click the File menu, then click Find.

2. Enter the name of the file you want to find in the Find box. You do not have to enter the complete name.

3. Click Find.

4. If you have System 7.5 or higher, the files containing the text you specified will appear in a new window. If you click on a file, its location on the hard drive will be shown in the lower half of the window.
If you have System 7.1, the files containing the text you specified will be shown to you one at a time. To see the next file, click the File menu, then click Find Again.
